Description:

Palepoli goes beyond the framework of standard four-panel manga and views its structure in new ways. Actually, Furuya knew nothing of conventional manga styles and methods when he started Palepoli. As a result, he created something that bore little similarity to other manga. (Source: MU)

Kasutoro Shiki

7.15

Description:

A collection of some of Kago Shintaro's works. 1. Oral Cavity Infectious Syndrome A panel of a manga on an otherwise blank page becomes self-aware and decides to create other panels so it won't be lonely. What begins as a single panel quickly turns into a story of infinite possibilities. 2. [unknown] 3. [unknown] 4. Genesis The biblical story of the Genesis revised and depicted with the usual unholy irony of Kago, with delirious situations quickly following one each other. 5. Superglue What happens when you step on something so disgusting that you never want to uncover it. 6. [unknown] 7. [unknown] 8. Multiplication A panel of a manga on an otherwise blank page becomes self-aware and decides to create other panels so it won't be lonely. What begins as a single panel quickly turns into a story of infinite possibilities. 9. Abstraction A one-shot that utilizes distilled surrealism to smash the fourth wall and every other wall it throws up. An experiment in the distinctly non-linear nature of comics. The story is not important; its visual presentation is its substance. 10. Blow-Up Macrocosm in a microcosm in a macrocosm. That's what this one-shot is about. 11. [unknown] 12. The Memories of Others Imagine your past would float after you as a series of comic panels. 13. Lord of the Ring An incompetent sumo wrestler uses the powers of a forbidden pair of pants to overcome and shame his competition, until one day someone rises to attempt to crush him and take the pants for himself. 14. Jisatsu Circle

(Suicide Circle)

6.46

Description:

Jisatsu Circle is a manga based on a movie of the same title, written and directed by Sion Sono. At first, the manga was intended to follow the same story, but Sion Sono asked Usamaru Furuya to adapt his own story to it, which resulted in a plot much easier to understand. The story begins with the same opening scene, where 54 girls commit suicide by jumping in front of a moving train. However, one girl survives (Saya Kota) and opens another Suicide Club, with other victims. Her best friend, Kyoko, fears for Saya's future and begins to search for the strange secrets surrounding the Suicide Club to try and save Saya and the other girls from committing such a tragedy again.

Garden

6.94

Description:

"Garden" is a collection of Furuya Usamaru's “indie” shorts that were published in Comic Cue, Manga Erotics and GARO respectively. The title is obviously a reference to Hieronymus Bosch’s famous triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights, with the first story being a homage to said painting. The other stories range from absurd comedies to fantasy to horror. It’s a very eclectic mixture, but make no mistake: artistically, Garden might just be Furuya’s most accomplished work after The Music of Marie. (Source: Kotonoha)
